B A N G K O K C L E A N S E (二)

Chatuchak Market.  I don't even know where to start about how I feel towards this market.

1. It's HUGE. Just google up the map of the market and be prepared to be blown away.
2. It's always crowded and hot.
3. They have these pet sections (soi 8, 9, 11, 13) that really irks me and it's really disheartening how tourists would think this is "cute" or acceptable for them to treat the animals like that, with such crappy living conditions. All that rant for another day.
4. They also have clothing sections like soi 5 & 6, which are my heaven.
5. Soi 6 is my top favourite because there are just heaps of vintage clothes to plough through each store.
6. Coconut ice cream and the duck leg noodles make the trip here all worth it.
7. Bargaining allowed. (even though I am shit at it, it's always a plus to be able to pull out the still-a-student-so-im-still-broke card. It works on some of them)

After one round of coconut ice cream, we finally found the one that was super popular! People on the internet recommended the one with the huge green tents and long queue. We went there expecting huge green tents and a long queue but were only greeted with huge green tents.

The Verdict
Mum felt that our first cup of coconut ice cream from some uncle with a small cart tasted better than the one from the huge green tent. I personally couldn't really taste the difference because I was just so hot and both times, the coconut ice cream were equally refreshing.

Omg this duck noodle is a MUST TRY when you head to Chatuchak Market. It was a bit hard to find at first, but after walking the perimeter of the market, squinting at all the signs plastered on the tentages, we found it!

The Verdict
Worth the hype. Despite the heat, our bowls of noodles were devoured up in minutes. It was a bit hard getting seats for a family of 4, because there were very limited seats and people were constantly walking through us, but if you could just ignore that for a while and savour the duck noodles - all is worth it.

We spent nearly 6 hours in Chatuchak Market, and I have to say we were quite lucky because it rained for a bit in the morning and we had a rather cooling day there. It was still sticky and crowded, though. I don't know why people say that they can't find anything from the market, it's probably because they don't know the sois and what they sell. Definitely download the map or at least read up about the different sois, so you know where to go immediately when you reach the market, instead of aimlessly wandering around in the heat.

On another note, my friend from Korea is over to visit! It's been a fulfilling but tiring few days. My korean is shit, but on the other hand, their english is rather good so I guess we make it work.
